Police visit brings community learning to life for Luton nursery children

September 4th, 2026

Real life learning experiences are an important part of nursery life at Partou. Read all about how Partou Prospect House welcomed local police officers to the nursery to support children's community awareness.

Children wearing brightly coloured clothes with police officers and a member of the Partou Prospect House nursery team gathered in front of a police car with the doors open outside the nursery.

Children at Partou Prospect House Day Nursery and Pre-School in Luton were treated to a very special visit from the Metropolitan Police, providing them with an exciting opportunity to find out about the important work the police do in supporting children, families and the wider community.

As part of their learning about different occupations, children in the Rising Two’s and Pre-School groups met with the local officers, asked questions and discovered more about how the police help to keep people safe.

Pauline Todd-Fowle, Partou Prospect House Acting Nursery Manager, said:

“We are very lucky to have a few parents within our nursery community who work for the police and were delighted that one of our police parents was able to kindly come in and visit the children, along with their colleague,”

“It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to see someone they know in a professional role and to make a meaningful connection between their learning and the world around them.”

Pauline said the children were fascinated to learn about the different equipment the officers use and particularly enjoyed inspecting the police vehicle, especially when they heard the sirens and saw the flashing lights.

She added: “This was a real highlight of the visit and created lots of excitement amongst the children.”

They were also given the chance to try on police uniforms, imagining themselves as police officers and taking part in role play. Pauline said: “Even our team members couldn’t resist getting involved and had lots of fun joining in with the dress-up experience.”

She continued: “Through friendly conversations, hands-on experiences and engaging interactions, the officers helped to make the day both informative and memorable. Our children were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the visit, building on their understanding of the different roles people have within our community.”

Located in a purpose-built building with free parking next to London Luton Airport, Prospect House Day Nursery and Pre-school has four individual playrooms to allow the team to tailor the early years nursery experience to the developmental needs of all age groups.

Each group also has access to an impressive outdoor space with climbing frames, soft play areas, planting areas and more to explore.

“Experiences such as this help children to develop confidence, communication skills and curiosity, while encouraging them to recognise and appreciate the many people who help us every day,”

Laura Clay, Partou Regional Childcare Director, said.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to the Metropolitan Police for taking the time to spend the morning at Partou Prospect House and making the visit such a fun, positive and meaningful experience for the children.”
