Top tips for making the most of your nursery visit
We've compiled a list of popular questions families ask at nursery visits to help you when deciding which nursery to choose for your child's early years education.
Families in Adel have been choosing Partou Acorns in Adel on Ottley Road for a long time, and the reasons are consistent: children here are happy, they grow in confidence, and they leave for school well prepared. Ofsted inspectors saw exactly that when they visited in September 2025, rating the nursery Outstanding and noting that children are “very happy” in a stimulating and inspiring environment.
Every child at Acorns has a dedicated key person who knows them well, tracks their progress, and builds the kind of warm, consistent relationship that helps children feel secure enough to grow. For babies coming in for the first time, that bond matters enormously: when children feel known and understood, they settle faster and feel safe to explore and learn. Ofsted noted that babies settle quickly and soon grow in confidence, which is something we see every day in our baby room, where free-flow access to the garden means children can move between indoor and outdoor play as naturally as they would at home.
We are really proud of our nursery team and families praise them highly in reviews. Many of our team have been with us for years, some for over two decades, and that consistency is important. Children build real relationships with the people who care for them, and families benefit from the stability of a team that knows their child well. We are passionate about investing in our team too and support team members through qualifications to enable them to progress to leadership roles within our nursery. This means familiar faces, and familiar faces mean a lot when you’re leaving someone you love in someone else’s care.
The curriculum at Partou Acorns in Adel is ambitious, carefully sequenced, and genuinely child-led to support children in preparation for primary school. Our pre-school committee, made up of the children themselves, chooses the weekly themes that guide activities across the nursery. Team members then build on those themes with skill and creativity, adapting in the moment as children’s curiosity takes hold. It’s this responsiveness that Ofsted highlighted as exceptional as activities evolve based on what children’s imaginations take them. Gaps in learning are identified early through detailed assessments, and targeted support plans mean that any child who needs additional help gets it quickly.
Outdoor learning is woven through everything we do at Acorns. Each room has its own secure garden, equipped with sensory mud kitchens, hard surfaces for bikes, and grassy areas for more relaxed play. The curriculum comes outside with the children: learning doesn’t stop at the door, and there’s no such thing as bad weather here! Our pre-school children have access to a large woodland area at the rear of the nursery, where they can explore, build confidence in their physical skills, and connect with the natural world.
Beyond our own grounds, we take children on regular walks and visits throughout the Adel community. Hickory’s opens its playground to us before hours and the team there have even welcomed the children into their little cinema space. We visit a local care home twice a month for music, movement and interactive story sessions, a partnership that has become genuinely meaningful for children and residents alike. Inter-generational socialising is a great way to nurture children’s social skills whilst supporting them to build empathy and a sense of community. Other excursions such as the donkey sanctuary, Golden Acre Park, the library for story time, and local shops and cafes all feature in our children’s early years experience, giving them rich, real-world learning that extends well beyond the nursery walls to build confidence and independence. Whilst out on our travels we love hiding books in the local community for people to find to spread our love of books far and wide. Community isn’t just a word here: it’s part of how we operate and our team raises money for charity each year, supporting causes that are close to our hearts.
Our home-cooked meals are freshly prepared, varied, and served in a way that makes eating together a genuinely positive experience. Team members sit and eat with the children; new foods are introduced with encouragement rather than pressure, and children learn to serve themselves and pour their own drinks, building independence alongside appetite.
Families are kept closely involved at Partou Acorns in Adel. The nursery app keeps communication flowing throughout the day and we hold parents’ evenings three times a year so families can speak with their child’s key person in depth. We know that children thrive when families and our nursery work together so these partnerships are very important to us. We offer stay-and-play sessions around key occasions in the year, including Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Grandparents’ Day. We hold Christmas parties and a July graduation ceremony for children heading to school, because those transitions deserve to be celebrated properly.
If you’re looking for a nursery in Leeds with an Outstanding Ofsted rating, an experienced and dedicated team, and an approach to early years that puts children’s curiosity at the centre, we’d love to show you why Partou Acorns in Adel is a great fit for your family.
